Pool Service FAQ Aqua Operators in North Carolina
I am looking at changing my pool filter? What type of filter should I buy?

The three most common types of pool filters are Cartridge, Diatomaceous Earth, or D.E. filters, and sand filters. We are able to install all three and all three have good points that people like. Cartridge filters are great for water clarity and require less maintenance. Diatomaceous Earth filters, by far, keep your water the cleanest and sand filters do a pretty good job for a low price point.

Do I need a weekly pool cleaning service?

The short answer is, probably yes. A pool is a big investment and needs to be taken care of regularly. Cleaning your pool and maintaining safe water chemistry requires time and know how to keep your pool in perfect working order. At Aqua Operators we offer many pool cleaning plans and we are certain to have one that meets your time, equipment, and money needs.

How long before I have to resurface my pool or spa?

That all depends upon what type of pool you have. For example manufacturers of Fiberglass pools claim they never need to be resurfaced. However, the most common surface used in pools today is plaster. Plaster, generally, must be resurfaced every 5 to 10 years. If you have a stone or tile pool, you are in good shape. Even though stones or tiles may dislodge from time to time, they only need to be reinstalled. A stone or tile pool, if well maintained, can last for many decades. About every twenty to twenty-five years, the pool should be re-grouted, though. Pebble and pebble aggregate can last for up to twenty years and painted pools usually must be repainted every three to five years.

How much do you charge for your weekly pool cleaning service?

It is hard to give an exact number because it depends upon where you live and the size of the pool and/or spa. However, our pricing starts at $55. Please feel free to call us at (919) 332-1121 Central or (910) 499-0620 Eastern to get more information and a quote or estimate for your pool service.

How often does my pool need to be vacuumed?

Once a day as needed for commercial pools and once a week for residential pools is usually sufficient, unless you have a heavy pool load. Then you may need to vacuum right after your party, as well. Many customers opt for an automatic pool vacuum. Yet, even with the automatic version, a thorough manual vacuuming ought to be done, at minimum, once a month to keep your pool sparkling and free of algae.

What’s the difference between a spa and a hot tub?

Today, the terms are used the interchangeably. However, this was not always the case. The term spa used to indicate an acrylic or plastic pool and the term hot tub indicated a unit made out of a hardwood like cedar or redwood. Both had jets, a pump, and a heater.

Do I need a fence around my pool?

Yes. North Carolina local and state Health and Safety Code give specific requirements about safety measures from your home to the pool and to ensure safety of those outside your home or community pool. Please see the Swimming Pool Safety Act for more information.

My eyes burn – is the chlorine level off?

Most often it is the ph of your pool water that needs adjusting. Ph that is either too high or too low will irritate your eyes.

Will a pool increase the value of my home?

In North Carolina, a well maintained pool is an excellent way to increase the value of your home from 7% to 15%. Often a pool increases the status of a home from a single family residence to a “family home” or a “home for entertaining”!
